CityDAO's pioneering test aims to combine ledger technology and decentralized governance to create an innovative, global community

In the panorama of technological innovation, CityDAO emerges as one of the most daring and visionary projects of recent years. Born from the idea of creating a completely decentralized city, this experiment uses Blockchain and decentralized governance tools (specifically DAOs, acronym in English for “Decentralized Autonomous Organization”) to redefine the very concept of community and ownership.
Unlike traditional cities, CityDAO does not have a centralized physical headquarters. Its nature is digital and global, with decisions made collectively by community members through decentralized voting. However, in 2021, the project took a tangible step towards the physical world, purchasing land in the US state of Wyoming, an hour’s drive north of the city of Cody.

A Bridge Between Digital and Physical in Powell, Park County
The land purchased by CityDAO, located in a rural area of Powell in Park County, represents the first attempt to connect the digital world of Blockchain with physical assets. The parcel of land in Park County, called “Parcel 0” or “zero parcel,” located at https://parcel-0.citydao.io/, has been divided into smaller portions and tokenized as NFTs, allowing community members to own and trade shares of the land.
The choice of Wyoming is not accidental. The state in the Rocky Mountain region is known for being one of the most advanced in the United States in terms of cryptocurrency and DAO regulation. In 2021, Wyoming introduced legislation recognizing Decentralized Autonomous Organizations as legal entities, creating a favorable environment for innovative projects like CityDAO.
According to Blockchain and innovation expert Scott Fitsimones, whose company AirGarage is in charge of collectively governing the CityDAO territory,
“What we are talking about represents an unprecedented social and technological experiment. The combination of Blockchain, decentralized governance, and physical ownership could pave the way for new forms of community organization, not just in the United States, but around the world.”

Digital Governance and Remote Global Participation
One of the most revolutionary aspects of CityDAO is its governance model. Decisions regarding land management and project development are made collectively
entity by token holders, who participate in decentralized voting. This approach eliminates the need for a central authority, instead placing decision-making power in the hands of the community.
The land near Cody, though small, is just the beginning. CityDAO aims to expand by acquiring more land and creating new physical communities around the world. The goal is to demonstrate that it is possible to build functional, sustainable cities based on principles of decentralization and democratic participation.
From CityDAO an idea of the future of decentralized cities
CityDAO is not only a technology project, but also a social experiment. It challenges traditional models of governance and ownership, proposing an alternative based on transparency, inclusiveness and innovation.
If the project is successful, it could inspire the creation of other decentralized cities around the world, redefining the way we live, work and interact. As Scott Fitsimones points out:
“CityDAO is a testbed for the future. If it can prove that a decentralized city is not only possible but also beneficial, it could change our approach to urban planning and governance forever.”

A new model of decentralized and participatory communities
CityDAO is a prime example of how blockchain technology can be used to create innovative models of social organization. Although still in its early stages, the project has already attracted the attention of experts, investors, and technology enthusiasts around the world.
With its Wyoming terrain and global community, the first fully decentralized city is laying the groundwork for a future where cities are no longer governed by centralized entities, but by decentralized, participatory communities. A future that, perhaps, has already begun.
