Thus the "Waveline Magnet" produces energy with the waves of the sea

This is the milestone achieved by the Cypriot company SWEL, which powers homes with an exclusive wave energy converter

The Waveline Magnet of the Cypriot company Sea Wave Energy Limited (SWEL) derives energy from the motion of the waves: its operation at sea from above

We are constantly looking for ways to use renewable sources and thus meet the growing demand for energy. The goal of our society, worldwide, is certainly to reduce the carbon dioxide emissions. How come you have not yet thought of use the sea and the waves to that end?

Several attempts have been made, from floating buoys to underwater generators that try to exploit pressure differences. Unfortunately, at the moment, they have proved useless to provide a "scalable" technology.

This month, however, the milestone was achieved by a company from Cyprus, with a technological antenna in Plymouth in the United Kingdom, which managed to power homes with its exclusive energy converter that works with the waves of the sea for over a year.

Several floating platforms connected to each other, so that the innovative generator follows the movement of the water

This is the Cypriot company Sea Wave Energy Limited (SWEL), which for over 10 years has been studying and working on a new technology that captures energy from waves.

Earlier this year, the company presented the prototype called Waveline Magnet, i.e. several floating platforms connected to each other to give it a floating spine-like appearance.

This modular and flexible system creates an energy generator that can follow the movement of the waves without problems.

According to the company, this allows the device to control the amount of energy extracted from the wave in a controlled and non-destructive way.

There are several ways to produce the prototype: with plastics and reinforced plastic materials that do not require specialized production lines, thus reducing production costs.

It can also be manufactured and used quickly, and the cost of repair and maintenance is also low.

Under the right conditions, a single wave energy converter can generate up to 100 MW of power, claims the Cyprus firm, and its low cost of energy production already puts it on par with fossil fuels.

The marketable prototype can be made from recycled materials and will not be a burden on the environment

Waveline Magnet has been tested in controlled environments. It still needs to be validated and you can improve it technology. Last year he was taken to Larnaca Bay, Cyprus, for some open sea trials.

Extensive, so to speak "indoor" tests had previously been conducted both in an "in-house" open-air tank in Cyprus and in two European infrastructures: the oceanic basin of the Nantes Power Station, in France, and inside the MAREI Center of the LIR National Test Facility of University College Cork, Ireland.

The SWEL company believes that the device's spine-like mobility will allow it to move with the waves and not oppose them, increasing the life of the device.

Furthermore, the device can be made from recycled materials, which is why it will not compromise thetechnology, such as solar panels or wind turbines.

La plastic used in fact, in the device there is a reinforced plastic, which will allow the exploitation of a less explored renewable energy source and will give a second life to petroleum waste derivatives.
