Zurich Polytechnic

Zurich Polytechnic is a public university in the Swiss city of the same name. The Federal Government founded it on February 7, 1854 and modeled it on the École Polytechnique in Paris to train engineers and scientists. The school focuses on the topics of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The 16 departments cover a wide variety of disciplines and subjects, including humanities. Like the similar Federal Polytechnic Institute of Lausanne (EPFL), it is part of a consortium of universities and institutes that reports to the Federal Department of Economy, Education and Research. As a public institution, it grants admission to all residents of the country who have matriculated. It held its first lectures on 16 October 1855 in the form of a multi-location polytechnic institute, initially consisting of six faculties. The Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule Zürich has two campuses. He built the main building between 1858 and 1864 on the eastern edge of the city, but today it is located in the center. From 1964 to 1976, the ETH built a new headquarters on the Hönggerberg, a northern hill on the outskirts. It completed its last major expansion project in 2003 to house the departments of architecture, civil engineering, biology, chemistry, materials science and physics.
