Sustainable mobility is the set of ways of moving people and goods capable of reducing the environmental, social and economic impacts generated by private and public vehicles on planet Earth. It involves planning and encouraging the use of public transport, for effective protection of atmospheric and environmental conditions, especially in urban centres. Sustainable mobility is innovative and is useful for counteracting numerous negative phenomena of means of transport: air pollution; noise pollution; road congestion; accident rates; the degradation of urban areas (caused by the space occupied by vehicles to the detriment of pedestrians); the consumption of land (caused by the construction of roads and infrastructures) and the costs of travel (both borne by the community and by the individual).
