Intelligent Management: The New Science of Organizing

The world is now dominated by complexity, the old organizational logics show all their limits. A new pact between people, companies, knowledge and value is needed. Organizational Science is a concrete and well-founded answer, which combines physics, statistics, cognitive psychology and management to accompany companies towards truly sustainable and high-performance models. Thanks to the pioneering approach of Domenico Lepore and Angela Montgomery, it was born on Innovating News an editorial space entirely dedicated to this new paradigm: Intelligent Management. A place of thought, tools, method and comparison, to face the future in a conscious, cohesive and intelligent way.

Intelligent Management

Today's companies are facing an unprecedented level of uncertainty and speed of change, with non-linear implications. These new dynamics require every company to have an enhanced and widespread ability to generate value for the market. Traditional logic is no longer enough.

A new science for management

Many business leaders are unaware that, as a natural consequence of the studies on nonlinear dynamics in physics and other disciplines, a new body of knowledge has emerged: what is commonly called science of complexity.

Since 1996, Intelligent Management aims to Equipping organizations to address complexity, transferring the principles of Systems Science to enhance their performance. This approach introduces a new way of designing, managing and operating. We help companies move from management based on intuition and trial to a reliable and epistemologically founded method, a “new science” of management.

A new form of consultancy

Although our work can be classified as consultancy, Intelligent Management is anything but a traditional consulting firm. We have chosen a very different path. Over the years we have built a team of physicists, mathematicians, engineers and philosophers.

This group has developed, tested and continually refined a method for managing complex organizational systems, consistent with a set of fundamental scientific principles. We call this method The Decalogue, and we work with decision makers to transfer these principles and support their concrete implementation.

A new organizational model

The foundation of our approach, and its main source of inspiration, is the work on variability (Quality) of Dr. W. Edwards Deming and the Theory of Constraints (TOC), initially developed by Dr. Eliyahu Goldratt.

Over the years we have evolved these teachings to arrive at an organizational design model that we call Network of Projects. This design brings out the reticular nature and systemic aspects of organizations, freeing them from artificial barriers and silos.

The emphasis is on quality, synchronization and involvement of resources towards a common goal, with attention to the speed of flow of ThroughputThroughput refers to the speed at which an organization achieves units of its goal (in for-profit companies, essentially money).

A science applied to evolution

By coherently integrating elements of systems theory, statistics, neuroscience, philosophy of language and cognitive psychology, we help organizations to incorporate continuous innovation and to grow sustainably.

We have been doing this since 1996 in a variety of industries, corporate and otherwise, across Europe and North America: from private enterprise to publicly traded companies, from heavy industry to high-tech, through Wall Street, healthcare, steel mills, software engineering, fashion, precision mechanics, industrial services, supply chain, SaaS startups and community projects.

A new way of thinking

To thrive in complexity, organizations must build a new pact with customers, suppliers and the entire value network to which they belong. They must learn to think in terms of increased throughput rather than simply reducing costs.

This requires a real cognitive leap. To facilitate it, Intelligent Management guides organizations to use a linguistic framework that allows you to unmask limiting beliefs, channel emotions productively and continuously develop disruptive and actionable innovations.

Our publications

Our work over the last thirty years has been a constant dialogue between conceptual development and concrete application in the field. These experiences are recounted in our internationally published books and in hundreds of articles available on our official website:

Ess3ntial demonstrates how an organization can be redesigned to avoid silos and localisms that compromise overall performance, making the most of available skills.
