Il president of the Swiss National Fund, Matthias Egger, and the president of the US National Science Foundation, Sethuraman Panchanathan, they signed a declaration of intent which lays the foundations for a long collaboration to promote research.

"Lead Agency", and a single yes will be enough to receive funding
A first novelty of the declaration of intent is that, in the case of joint projects, the researchers in Switzerland and in the USA can submit only one application for funding.
The project will be evaluated by FNS or from NSF and no longer, as in the past, by both organizations. This procedure, called "Lead Agency” is much more agile for both researchers and promotional bodies.
About 15 percent of scientific publications in Switzerland is result of collaborations with the United States.
Plus, from 2016 the Swiss National Science Foundation funded more than 5000 projects involving a partner US.
