Video, LOCTITE adhesives and automation in the biomedical industry

Four videos from Mirandola tell the story of the technologies, communication and processes behind the assembly of devices with Henkel solutions.

LOCTITE in Mirandola: a meeting dedicated to adhesive technologies for medical devices, with a focus on assembly, automation, dispensing, polymerization, and production process control.

Three videos made in Mirandola and a film created for a global communications campaign tell the story of the role of LOCTITE technologies in the biomedical sector, focusing on an element that is often invisible in the finished product: the adhesive as an integral part of the design and assembly process of medical devices.

The videos show how Henkel Adhesive Technologies You address the issue through specific formulations, dosing systems, LED polymerization, and automation solutions. In the medical industry, the behavior of the joint depends not only on the adhesive chosen, but also on the amount applied, substrates, geometry, polymerization method, sterilization, and production repeatability.

Part of the contents is dedicated to Mauro Stien, Business Development Manager EU South Medical Industry, who illustrates the relationship between chemistry and process control. Adhesives for the industry can be integrated with automated systems capable of managing deposition and polymerization, reducing variability in the processing of small or complex components.

An application case is that of How much System, where LOCTITE 3494 is used in the assembly of blast shields for surgical laser machines together with a three-axis Cartesian dispensing system and a UV LED torch. The goal is to uniform the adhesive deposit and control its polymerization.

The technical documentation also refers to Henkel protocols based on the standards of biocompatibility ISO 10993 and the need to evaluate the behavior of adhesives even after sterilization processes. The material must therefore be considered within the entire life cycle of the device and not just for its initial adhesion capacity.

The fourth video, with Laura Carbone, Head of Marketing Southern Europe, addresses the topic of communicating innovation. In the biomedical industry, many crucial technologies remain hidden within the final product: explaining them means explaining the relationship between materials, industrial processes, quality, and reliability, rather than simply focusing on the performance of a single formulation.

Taken together, the four films show how innovation in medical assembly often hinges on details that are difficult to see but crucial to production: dosing precision, polymerization control, material selection, and the ability to consistently produce the same result.
